Your desert adventure begins as we depart Fes, heading south toward the Sahara. First, we cross the Middle Atlas Mountains, passing through fragrant cedar forests where Barbary macaques often play. Next, we stop in Midelt, a charming market town famous for its apple orchards and fossil workshops.
After lunch, the landscape transforms as we descend through the spectacular Ziz Valley, where a lush palm oasis contrasts dramatically with the surrounding arid plains. Finally, we arrive in Merzouga as the sun sets behind Erg Chebbi’s golden dunes, where you’ll spend the night at a comfortable desert hotel.
We begin before dawn to witness the spectacular sunrise over the dunes. After returning to Merzouga for breakfast, our journey continues northwest through the Todgha Valley. Soon, the landscape changes dramatically as we reach Todra Gorge, where 300-meter-high limestone cliffs create a breathtaking canyon. You’ll have time to walk through the narrowest sections before we continue to Dades Valley.
Known for its surreal “monkey fingers” rock formations, the valley glows red in the evening light. We overnight in a charming guesthouse perched above this geological wonder.
We wake before dawn to witness the spectacular sunrise over the dunes. After breakfast back at the hotel, we begin our return journey. First, we stop in Rissani to explore its traditional market (if it’s market day). Then, we travel through the scenic Ziz Valley once more, stopping for lunch in Midelt. Finally, we pass through Azrou’s cedar forests before arriving back in Fes by evening, where your desert adventure concludes.
